Barker & O’Donoghue focuses on residential projects that need careful planning, close coordination with architects and designers, and steady leadership on site. Most of our work is in single family homes and small multi unit buildings where structure, detail, and communication have to be handled properly from day one.

Whole home and major remodels

These are larger projects that touch most or all of a home. They often involve working across several floors at once, upgrading structure and services, and aligning older buildings with how people live today.

We work closely with clients and design teams to carry the intent of the plans through construction. Our role is to organize the work, manage the trades, and make sure the finished home feels calm, solid, and considered, not rushed or pieced together.

Additions, expansions, and conversions

Many projects begin with a need for more space. We handle horizontal and vertical additions, unit conversions, and work that extends a building into the yard or up toward the roof.

These jobs often include new rooms, revised circulation, and changes to the way people move through the property. They require careful structural work and coordination with the city. We keep the focus on making the home feel like a single, unified build rather than old and new parts sitting side by side.

Exteriors, envelope, and building upgrades

A good project does more than look finished on the inside. We also work on exteriors and building envelopes, including repairs, window and siding replacement, decks, and façade improvements.

The goal is to protect the structure, bring the building in line with current expectations, and clean up layers of past work that may not have been done to the same standard. We pay close attention to how new work meets existing materials so the building feels coherent from the street and from inside.

Special and one off projects

From time to time we take on special projects that fall outside a typical remodel. These might be small commercial or event related spaces, or work that adapts an existing property for a unique use.

What they have in common is the need for thoughtful planning, clear communication, and a builder who can manage complexity without losing sight of the basics: safety, structure, and a clean finish.

Pre construction and project leadership

No matter the scope, every job begins with a clear plan. We help clients and design teams think through:

  • Scope and phasing

  • Budget and cost ranges

  • Structural implications and permitting

  • Schedule, access, and neighborhood realities

During construction we stay present and available. The principals remain involved, questions are answered directly, and decisions are documented so everyone understands what is happening and why.

The aim is straightforward. Fewer surprises, better coordination, and a finished project that feels right for the people who live with it every day.
